SCOTTISH MODEL ENGINEERING TRUST

The Scottish Model Engineering Trust

Who we are:

The Trust was formed in 2001, formerly the Perth Society of Model and Experimental Engineers which was founded in 1935. Originally to promote engineering excellence through the provision of workshop facilities which were beyond the scope of model engineers in those days. Over the years the activities expanded to cover a wide range of disciplines

Through regular exhibitions of their work and lectures the members have sought to share the hobby with the public. Its success can be measured by the number of ‘non engineers’ who have joined and built award winning designs.

These activities continue to demonstrate that Scotland’s engineering heritage is amongst the most diverse and the richest in the world, whilst many of the older traditional skills are being lost; innovation and development continue to thrive ensuring our place amongst the world’s innovators. The SMET has as its main object the advancement of these skills in an enjoyable way, whilst preserving the best of the old in a form that brings pleasure to people of all ages.

Set in seven acres of mixed woodland, in the heart of the Perthshire countryside WESTER PICKSTON RAILWAY miniature railway is already being enjoyed by members. Further plans include a boating pond and picnic area for friends, members and other clubs to enjoy.

Where we are:

Take the Perth to Crieff road A85 to Methen. We are situated 3 miles from Methven towards Glenalmond on College Road. College Road is directly opposite the Methven Post Office. We have a seven acre site. Look for the steel mesh gates on the righthand side of the road when coming from Methven.
